Abstract:
A magnitude 5.3 seismic event was recorded on September 9, 2016 at 9:30 am local time on the territory of North Korea. The epicenter was located near the settlements located 20 kilometers from the nuclear test site Pangiri. This gives a high probability that North Korea had conducted a nuclear test on the occasion of the anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic. The US Geological Survey classified the tremors as "explosion". Later, North Korea officially announced the fifth nuclear test. Assessment of the explosion of power - from 10 to 30 kilotons. The Chinese seismological center reported that the source of seismic vibrations lies at a depth of zero kilometers, and it could be a blast. This source of seismic events recorded by seismic stations of the Ukrainian National Information Center. Interactive PS45 data processing, and data from other national stations using Geotool software that was provided by the International Data Centre, also points to the location of the source of the events in North Korea, in an area where underground nuclear tests were previously carried out.
