Objectives:

To equip IMS infrasound station operators with the knowledge and technical skills required to operate, maintain, and manage stations utilizing Nanometrics Centaur and Quanterra Q330M+ digitizers.

Upon completion, trainees will be able to perform essential operational, reporting, and configuration tasks efficiently; conduct effective State-of-Health (SOH) and data quality monitoring; and apply systematic approaches to equipment and software configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

 

Specific Learning Outcomes

Trainees will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the primary station systems, components, equipment, site/channel names, and codes.
  • Configure Centaur and Q330M+ digitizers as well as SSI software, and utilize associated monitoring tools.
  • Perform key operational tasks, apply monitoring procedures, and report incidents using the IRS system.
  • Explain configuration management concepts and demonstrate proficient use of DOTS and station documentation.
  • Conduct daily State-of-Health (SOH) monitoring, assess data quality, identify issues, and implement corrective strategies.
  • Describe the interconnections between operations, maintenance activities, and available support resources to sustain IMS station performance.
  • Develop and apply strategies for mitigating, troubleshooting, and resolving failures that significantly impact station performance.

To ensure that technical training is provided to the most relevant individuals, please nominate personnel directly associated with the respective IMS facility. Station Operators who have not previously attended similar training courses are particularly encouraged to apply.

Prerequisite:
Basic Linux knowledge is mandatory.

State Signatories wishing to nominate participants are requested to inform the Provisional Technical Secretariat (see Point of Contact) through their respective Permanent Mission by the deadline set for application and use the registration form available at:

Financial support may be available for a limited number of participants. Such assistance must be requested at the time of registration (by selecting the relevant box during online registration).

PTS reserves the right to postpone/cancel the training depending on number of applicants.

Financial Information 

In accordance with the Staff Regulations and Rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide the following: 

  • A Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) that is sufficient to cover the related expenses during the training program; 
  • The PTS travel agent will reserve, issue and forward the flight ticket to the participants for the most direct and economic route;
  • Funded participants are not allowed to purchase their own tickets unless, under exceptional circumstances, be authorized to do so and only if this proves to be most cost efficient for the PTS;
  • The PTS will book a hotel and cover the costs for the accommodation and training participants will receive their remaining Daily Subsistence Allowance upon arrival in Vienna; and
  • Health insurance will be provided for the duration of the training.

Requirement: Scanned passport copies. 

Other Pertinent Information

  • Participants should apply for visas, if needed, at the corresponding Embassy upon receipt of an Acceptance Note Verbale from the PTS, in order to ensure timely processing.
  • Access and login instructions for the CTBTO Knowledge and Training Portal (KTP) will be provided to participants prior to the training.
  • We reserve the right to cancel the Station Operator Technical Training if there is insufficient interest from Invited States Signatories.
