Financial support may be available to a limited number of participants. Such assistance must be requested during registration (by selecting the relevant box during online registration) and no later than 19 May 2023.

Financial support will be considered only for those who have either submitted an accepted abstract or submitted a paragraph outlining their ideas for using legacy data from nuclear tests.

Participants are strongly encouraged to first seek travel and participation funds from non-CTBTO sources.

In accordance with the Staff regulations and rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide to funded participants the following:

  • A Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) that is sufficient to cover the related expenses during the workshop program will be granted to funded participants;
  • The PTS travel agent will reserve, issue and forward the flight ticket to the participants for the most direct and economic route;
  • Funded participants are not allowed to purchase their own tickets unless, under exceptional circumstances, when authorized to do so and only if this proves to be the most cost efficient for the PTS;
  • The PTS will book a hotel and cover the costs of accommodation; and
  • Health insurance for the duration of the technical meeting.

Themes of the technical meeting:

  • How to Recover and Digitize historical records?
  • What data inventories are currently available? Where should a legacy data repository reside?
  • What can historic records teach us? What insights do new methods (e.g, machine learning) give us from looking at old data?

Other Pertinent Information:

  • Registration: To qualify for funding, participants must submit either an abstract related to the meeting topics or a paragraph outlining their intended use of legacy data from nuclear tests. Failing to meet these requirements will disqualify them from being considered for funding.
  • Oral Presentations: Accepted participants will be included in the agenda for a 30-minute presentation.
  • Poster Presentations: A1 (59.4cm x 84.1cm) is the selected size for those participants requesting this modality.
  • Visas: Participants should apply for visas, if needed, at the corresponding consular office upon receipt of an acceptance Note Verbale from the Secretariat in order to ensure timely processing.
  • Health/Accident Insurance: It is strongly recommended that prior to departure, all participants should acquire health and accident insurance for the duration of the workshop. All PTS-funded participants shall be covered under the Global Medical Insurance scheme under third-party liability insurance.
